Meet the team - Coco - Reskinned

We know how much you love when we share a behind the scenes look at what goes on at Reskinned HQ, and getting to know the people who make things happen. We finally managed to sit down with Reskinned’s incredible marketing manager Coco, to ask her all about her career journey and what her daily life looks like at Reskinned. Plus her top tips on how to make your wardrobe more sustainable. Coco started off her sustainable fashion career with a brand you might be familiar with, but we’ll let her tell you all about that…

If you haven't already why not check out some of the other amazing team members here at Reskinned! Learn more about our junior brand manager Grace, our resident repairer Lizzie, and our customer service manager Deron (who moonlights as a DJ).

Can you share a little about your journey as Marketing Manager for Reskinned?

Of course.

After working in events and project management for a few years I started my sustainable fashion journey with the brand Finisterre. Yes, the same one that has been selling pre-loved on Reskinned since the very beginning!

I was working in the London flagship store, where I learned so much about sustainability and what goes on in the fashion industry.

Working for an ethical company that was trying to push the boundaries of sustainable fabric innovation while protecting the planet really led me to rethink my own fashion consumption habits.

I've always been a huge fan of thrifting and vintage, so when I saw the opportunity to work for Reskinned I knew that my passion for fashion and sustainability, alongside my retail and marketing background meant the opportunity was a no-brainer.

I joined the company right at the very beginning, and watching how much we've grown and how far we've come over the past few years has been such an amazing experience and special journey.

What do you find most rewarding about your role?

I love to see all the amazing brand partnerships that we've managed to develop over the years. Seeing that list growing is such an achievement, especially knowing that we're all working towards the same goal: keeping clothes in circulation for as long as possible while doing our bit for the planet.

Seeing all the clothes we've managed to rehome, and growing our pre-loved community has been nothing but rewarding. Every time we get support and feedback about the work we do, it inspires us to keep going, and keep spreading the word about buying pre-loved, and the difference it can make.

My role is actually very diverse and creative - having the opportunity to work on so many different projects while doing good for the environment is something that I really enjoy. Having a career with purpose is extremely driving, and makes it a pleasure to come to work.

Can you walk us through your typical day?

There's no such thing as a typical day at my job and that's why I love it!

I oversee all communications, launches, and promotions for our brand partners and Reskinned, continuously seeking new and innovative marketing strategies. A significant part of my role involves analysing pre-loved consumer consumption. This analysis is crucial for understanding our community's needs and desires. The more data we gather, the better we can support consumers on their sustainable journey. Additionally, I assist brands in developing and communicating their sustainability roadmaps, ensuring they effectively share their sustainability goals and partnership details.

From organising last-minute pop-up stores to participating in bigger events about sustainability and the environment, everyday life at Reskinned is definitely varied and it's certainly not boring.

What do you enjoy most about working at Reskinned?

My favourite thing about working at Reskinned is our amazing team. We're very small and very close which makes it a really wonderful environment to be in. Often we're stepping out of our comfort zones to help in different areas of the business, and everyone is there to support one another.

Another thing that makes working at Reskinned so special is that I get to collaborate closely with my former workplace Finisterre. I love that we’re able to offer sustainable solutions for pre-loved Finisterre pieces. Whether that’s by finding new homes for them, or coming up with creative transformations like recycling and upcycling, we get to embody the essence of genuine circular fashion, which is no small feat.

What are your tips for shopping more sustainably?

Last year I set myself a challenge. I challenged myself to not buy anything new for the entire year. I'm very proud to say that I'm still sticking to that a year later.

I've always been fascinated by secondhand treasures, and I love vintage fashion. For me, Vinted is my go-to platform when I'm trying to find one of a kind pieces to add to my wardrobe, or when I feel like I need to declutter.

When I use the app, I tend to keep the money I make from selling things in my account as my “shopping budget." That means whenever I buy things, it feels as though I'm never actually spending any “physical” money.

The Vinted app can be a little bit overwhelming when you first download it, but once you get used to it, it's an amazing place to find incredible clothes at great prices.

My top tip is to look for classic basic items that you can rotate easily. That might be a pair of denim jeans, a black leather jacket, or a white T-shirt. Staples that you can keep and wear for a very long time.

If you're looking for something very specific, but want to buy it pre-loved instead of new, it can be tricky to get the right cut and fit to suit your body.

If you can, I recommend trying on the garment in-store and then looking online to see if you can get it second hand. You will be so surprised to see how quickly people get rid of their nearly new purchases.

My overall recommendation is to always think before buying anything new. Revisit your wardrobe regularly and chances are you'll find some true gems in there that you forgot existed.

Coco has been an indispensable member of the Reskinned family, and without her genius ideas and strong creative vision, we wouldn’t be where we are today, sharing the pre-loved mission with thousands of amazing people who all want to make a difference.

Thank you Coco for your dedication, vision, great sense of humour, and drive to make the world a better place, one pre-loved bargain at a time.
