At Reskinned, the warehouse is the heartbeat of everything we do, from managing takebacks to preparing each pre-loved piece for a new life. This operation takes a dedicated team and a whole lot of coordination, and that’s where Huy, our Operations Manager, comes in. With a keen eye on every detail, Huy ensures that all warehouse processes flow smoothly, making sure each item is ready to return to the world with a second chance. We caught up with him to get a closer look at his journey, his role, and what it takes to keep Reskinned’s operations ticking.

Can you share a little about your journey as Operations Manager at Reskinned?

My journey with Reskinned has been an adventure of growth and learning from day one. When I joined 2.5 years ago, the website was just starting, and everything felt like a startup whirlwind. We were a small team working hard to get the wheels turning, and now, looking back, it’s incredible to see just how much has changed. Our once modest space has transformed into a thriving, fully scaled operation that handles thousands of takebacks and pre-loved pieces every week. The warehouse has grown in size, our team has quadrupled, and seeing this tangible growth has been so rewarding. It's proof of how much people are investing in sustainable fashion. I’m excited to see where we go next as we look toward 2025—there’s no telling what’s possible!

What do you find most rewarding about your role?

It’s definitely my team. Watching them grow from newcomers to genuine experts in pre-loved fashion has been the most fulfilling part of my job. Many joined without much experience in circular fashion, and now they’re confidently managing complex processes, setting high standards, and becoming true ambassadors of sustainable fashion. To see them go from novices to skilled operators who are proud of the work we’re doing feels like such a win for all of us. It’s both a source of pride and motivation, and it gives me a sense of personal accomplishment to know that I’ve been part of their journey.

Can you walk us through your typical day?

A ‘typical day’ here? That’s a tough one because every day is unique! My role revolves around our seven core processes:

  1. Approving Takeback: This is when we receive your pre-loved clothes! We scan them in to verify the items and you get your discount code.
  2. Sorting: The items then get sorted based on their condition. This helps us identify whether they’re fit for resale, reuse or need to be recycled.
  3. Ozone Cleaning: Items ready for resale get cleaned using our waterless, eco-friendly method to eliminate bacteria and odours.
  4. Garment care: This is where pre-loved items are steamed, de-bobbled and repaired (if needed) to get them looking ‘like new’.
  5. Photography: All of the items are photographed professionally so you can see exactly what they look like before you buy.
  6. Listing: It’s time to put them on site! If the items have any imperfections or have been repaired, this is noted on our website
  7. Fulfilment: Finally, the items are packed and stored in our warehouse, ready to be bought and loved by someone else.

So, I'm often hopping between different tasks and problem-solving on the go. I might start the day planning our next big project or initiative, making sure the team has what they need to succeed, or tackling an unexpected challenge. Some days are about refining processes to keep things running efficiently, while others are spent finding ways to improve operations altogether. Flexibility is key, and being ready to pivot at a moment’s notice is just part of the job. It’s never dull, that’s for sure!

What are your tips for shopping more sustainably?

The best tip I have is simple: buy less. If you don’t need it, don’t buy it - it’s the easiest way to be sustainable. If you’re shopping, think about how many ways you can use that item and how long it’ll really last. Always bring your own bag, and if you find yourself ready to part with an item, consider giving it a second life. Our takeback scheme at Reskinned is perfect for sending your old clothes on a new journey without adding to the pile of landfill waste. It’s a simple choice, but it really makes a difference.

What do you enjoy most about working at Reskinned?

Apart from the thrill of seeing Reskinned grow and finding innovative ways to improve our operations, it’s the camaraderie here that makes it all worthwhile. There’s a real energy with this team - a mix of dedication and fun that makes each day a pleasure. We’re a group of like-minded people working toward a common goal, and having that shared mission to create a more sustainable fashion industry gives a lot of purpose to what we’re doing. The banter, the collaboration, and knowing that everyone is committed to the same vision—it’s what makes this place feel like more than just a workplace.

With Huy at the helm of our warehouse, Reskinned’s mission to bring pre-loved fashion back to life is stronger than ever. His commitment to efficiency, teamwork, and sustainable practices keeps our operations moving seamlessly. Thanks to Huy and the entire warehouse team, each takeback has the opportunity to make a meaningful impact.
