Celebrating Our Wins: Reskinned Wins Awards for Circular Fashion

18 Oct 2024

We’re thrilled to announce that Reskinned has been recognised with several prestigious awards this year and last. For us, these are big milestone moments - at one point not so long ago our business consisted of our founders with a dream in their kitchen packing orders, and now here we are, being recognised by global leaders as… global leaders?! Pinch us.

It feels incredible that we’ve come so far, but we always had big dreams for Reskinned, and trust us when we say we’re only getting started.

Winning awards and being commended for what we do is something that would never have been possible without our incredible, laser-focused and passionate team, our trusting brand partners and the support of our amazing customers. So thank you all for believing in our mission.

Any positive recognition is amazing, but when we’re being recognised for our commitment to circular fashion, these awards are not just trophies. They are proof that the industry is taking notice of the impact we’re making.

Knowing that big names like Drapers and Marie Claire see Reskinned as leaders reshaping the fashion landscape - it’s surreal, it’s amazing and we are very very proud.

Shall we tell you more about them?

Marie Claire Recommerce Award: We won!

Reskinned is proud to have been named the Winner in the Recommerce category at the 2024 Marie Claire UK Sustainability Awards. We pride ourselves on providing a trusted sustainable alternative to fast fashion, and this recognition really highlights our commitment to our mission.

Recommerce plays a vital role in combating fashion waste, and receiving this prestigious accolade affirms our position as innovators redefining how the industry tackles this challenge. We’re here to make lasting change, and we’re proud that we’re being recognised for that.

What Stands Us Apart in Recommerce?

We take a unique 360-degree approach to recommerce. The challenge that comes with reselling secondhand fashion in the way that other companies do, is that the clothes that people don’t want to buy end up being thrown out or disposed of in unsustainable ways. Because let’s face it, although there is a ton of amazing fashion that other people will snap up in an instant, many trends and items don’t stand the test of time. Ehem, ehem… denim printed leggings from the 2010s we’re talking to you.

Though other recommerce platforms are doing a brilliant job in promoting sustainable solutions and offering new ways to shop, they often don’t have the infrastructure to recycle the clothing at the end of its life, or the relationships to offer other routes for clothes that aren’t sellable.

Our recommerce solution takes into account the clothes at all life stages, and finds the best possible route. Whether that means providing feedstock for designers to upcycle, repairing small flaws and damage, or utilising pioneering recycling solutions to break down old clothes into their core materials, so that they can be used again. We don’t shy away from doing the challenging work, and that’s what stands us apart from the competition. We don’t just provide a solution, we provide the whole solution.

Thank you to Marie Claire for recognising that, and a huge congratulations to everyone else who was celebrated for their hard work and dedication to sustainability. Find out more about the other amazing companies who won awards here.

Drapers Tech for Good: Highly Commended

In another exciting celebration, we’ve been Highly Commended in the Tech for Good category at the Drapers Tech Awards in 2024.

This award celebrates companies that are using technology to drive positive change. Not everyone knows how much we use tech, because a lot of it happens behind the scenes. But we’re pretty good at the tech side of our business, and using it to make our efforts in circularity x100 bigger and more impactful.

How Do We Use Tech For Good?

Technology is a huge part of our processes, and we use it every single day to keep our systems streamlined and fast - so more items can be diverted from landfill and into the hands and wardrobes of people who love them and will wear them.

This year we created a system for River Island that made the process of dealing with customer returns a whole lot easier. Big brands end up with huge quantities of returns, which are often not able to go back on sale on the company’s website or in store, despite being basically brand new. Things like white dresses that have makeup stains, clothes that are creased or have thread pulls, or things that have already sold out by the time one ends up back in the warehouse.

We knew that tech was the answer, and built a unique automated sorting system that allows us to quickly identify items, and get them rehomed via our eBay River Island store, complete with any minor flaws and a nice discount for the buyer. This diverts such a vast amount of clothing from ending up stuck in a warehouse, or in landfill, and also identifies any faults and issues in manufacturing. Because if we’re getting lots and lots of a certain type of product, we know that there could be a problem with part of the design or make. Think, see-through white work-trousers, or a top with uncomfortable straps. This means that they know not to make products with these features any more, and a lot of waste is eliminated.

That’s just one way we’re using tech for good. There are actually many more. As a business we believe that harnessing the power of technology is one of the best ways we can make impactful difference, and we’re proud that we’ve been recognised for our impact.

Who Won the Award?

We didn’t come first, but that’s okay. The incredible brand HILOS Studio won the Drapers Tech For Good award this year, and they are worthy winners. They are a team of changemakers in a very challenging area of fashion - shoes.

Shoes are notoriously hard to recycle or break down, and this team of designers, artists and engineers are using technology to find the sustainable solutions that eliminate the waste. From 3D printing to 3D knit, they make zero waste, low impact manufacturing achievable for their partner brands.

We love to see their designs and the work they do.

Drapers Recommerce Award: Highly Commended

Reskinned also received a Highly Commended recognition in the Recommerce category at the Drapers Sustainable Fashion Awards 2023, and we are so proud. We won’t go into even more detail about why we’re proud of our unique recommerce solutions, but this award is incredibly prestigious, and we are honoured that we’ve been recognised for our dedication.

Why Did We Get Awarded Highly Commended?

Even though we were early on in our business, we were recognised for our vision and mission by Drapers, and that’s because, among other things, offering a takeback scheme stood us apart from the other recommerce companies. We give you the chance to send back the clothes they no longer wear from the brands they love, and get rewarded with a voucher to spend at your favourite store. You can see the amazing brands we work with here, and get involved.

This gives our brands a full-circle solution to dealing with the clothes they create once they’re no longer being worn and loved, so that nothing ends up as waste, and nothing ends up in landfill.

And you can even take part in our personal takeback scheme, where you can send us literally anything (almost) and we’ll give you a voucher to spend on our site. Interested? Find out more here.

Looking To the Future

We are beyond grateful to have received such amazing recognition, but we also know that this is just the beginning. We have big goals, and big plans - we’re going to keep on pushing the boundaries in circular fashion, working with more brands, and helping even more people make sustainable choices with their wardrobe.

We can’t wait to see what the next year brings, and we’re already setting our sights on winning even more awards for our efforts. (We don’t rest on our laurels at Reskinned!)

We’re also working hard to get our B-Corp Certification, which will be a major win, maybe even the biggest there is. After celebrating our brands Seasalt and Hush get theirs, we know we’re next - so watch this space.

You can shop our pre-loved brands here and be part of the pre-loved revolution.
