It feels like we blinked and suddenly, here we are, almost at the end of another incredible year at Reskinned. Time really does fly when you’re doing what you love! So, we thought it was the perfect moment to pause and take stock of everything we’ve accomplished over the past year. And, of course, we wanted to share it with you. After all, you’re a big part of the journey, and we think it’s important you get a peek behind the curtain. It’s been a year full of milestones, so let’s dive into some of the highlights.
Our goal here at Reskinned is simple - keeping clothes out of landfill, and in the hands of the people who are going to love them most.
This year, we’re proud to report:
Running the numbers gives us a snapshot of what’s been going on, and we can start to visualise the actual impact we’re making. And we really couldn’t do it without our incredible customers, so we want to say a big thank you to anyone who shopped with us this year, sent us something via our takeback schemes, or spread the word about what we do.
When you put a number to the everyday work we do, you get to start seeing the tangible impact of a collective effort of all of our team members, our partners and our customers. Together we’re making an actual difference, and that is pretty cool.
There’s no better feeling than to welcome a new brand into the Reskinned crew, and this year we had two new partners take the exciting step into a more sustainable business, plus a few other exciting things going on in the world of takeback.
Anthropologie and Janji both started their takeback journey, and we’ve loved having them on board - and so have you guys!
You can’t get enough of Anthropologie’s unique wardrobe pieces, or Janji’s fun activewear styles.
Our longest partners Finisterre launched their in-store takeback scheme, meaning even more of you guys can take advantage of the scheme, and spread the word about how you can be more sustainable with the clothes you already own.
You can find out all about it here.
And perhaps the biggest news of all when we talk about our takeback schemes, is that we launched our very own takeback scheme too!
As part of our UKFT grant from 2023, we’re collaborating with other big minds in fashion and retail to make our biggest ideas a reality, and part of that involves scaling up our takeback efforts to include everything and anything, not just the brands we partner with.
That means we’re now accepting any clothes from any brand, in any condition.
And we’ll exchange them for a voucher to spend on our site. Now all of your old clothes can have a new life - even the ones that are ready to retire. We’ve already received 767 items, and are expecting steady growth over the next 12 months.
You can start your Reskinned takeback here.
We are absolutely stoked to have been recognised for our work in sustainable fashion by two big names this year.
We won an award!
We are incredibly proud to have won the Marie Claire Sustainable Fashion Award 2024 for Recommerce. Marie Claire chose us because we’re the recommerce platform that’s prioritising resale , reuse and recycling all in one place. Most other recommerce platforms don’t manage to do the recycling part, because it’s pretty tricky, and you need some serious expertise (thank you to our co-founder Ross Barry for providing that!)
Marie Claire was particularly impressed with us working with brands using upcycling to give a new purpose to our waste, and our mission to keep educating our community as much as possible, so we all have the info we need to make the decisions that are best for people and the planet.
It’s a real honour to have been chosen, so a big thank you to Marie Claire.
In another exciting celebration, we were also Highly Commended in the Tech for Good category at the Drapers Tech Awards, 2024.
The award is a celebration of companies using technology to make a positive change, which is something that goes on behind the scenes over here at Reskinned, and is a huge part of what we do. We’re pioneering new technologies to make positive progress happen on a much bigger scale, and we’re proud to have been recognised for that.
Getting recognition for our hard work is a nice surprise, and validation that what we’re doing is being seen and valued by the community. Our team has worked tirelessly to make circular fashion a more tangible reality for everyone, so we’re very happy to see that being recognised.
Did you know, we don’t just partner with brands who want to be more circular, we also partner with organisations that share our mission too?
This year we worked on two exciting projects.
Give Your Best is a social enterprise working to empower people in clothing poverty, by offering them free donated clothes. The online platform operates just like a normal retail site, but without any money involved.
If you need clothes and can’t afford them, Give Your Best makes sure you can still get your hands on them - and hopefully clothes you actually like. The platform allows people in need, particularly refugees, asylum seekers and those who are facing hardship, to not only get clothes when they need them, but to be able to “shop” and choose their items with dignity.
For our 2 year anniversary, on Earth Week this year we donated 10% of our profits for the entire week, which helped us send 350 small parcels of clothes to refugees in need.
For more details about the initiative, you can visit Give Your Best UK.
We also proudly partnered with Blue Earth Summit, which is a three day event that brings together all sorts of changemakers and big thinkers working on a shared mission of addressing environmental and social issues all over the globe.
Our co-founder Matt shared his ideas about the future of fashion in an insightful panel discussion, and our repair specialists set up a station to fix all sorts of garments for free for the attendees.
We also set up donation bins for takeback, so everyone could get involved with keeping clothes out of the landfill.
This year also saw us make a change to how we deliver your parcels, by switching to eco-courier service Zedify. We’re all about constantly reviewing every aspect of our business and finding new ways to be even more sustainable, and changing couriers was a great way to do that.
Zedify operates at 84% lower CO2 emissions compared to traditional delivery methods, and their 0 NOx emissions help improve air quality in cities, contributing to cleaner urban environments.
Working with them still means speedy delivery, but now it’s green.
All in all, this has been a big year for us at Reskinned, and we’re proud to be making an actual difference in the fashion industry.
Of course, we couldn’t do it without you, so give yourself a pat on the back for doing your bit for the planet.
Next year we’ve got even more big plans coming, so keep your eyes peeled.
