When Penny and Nikki swapped London life for the rolling countryside of rural Rutland, they brought their love of fashion with them. Meeting because of their kids the same age and quickly bonding over a shared obsession with great clothes, the pair quickly realised that style wasn’t something to leave behind in the city. From wellies to silk shirts, they made it their mission to prove that fashion has a place in the countryside, too.

Their journey into sustainable fashion began after watching Stacey Dooley’s Fashion’s Dirty Secrets, a documentary that sheds light on the environmental impact of the industry. If you haven’t seen it, we definitely recommend giving it a watch.
That was the turning point for the duo. From then on, they committed to making more conscious choices, shopping pre-loved, championing sustainable brands, and encouraging their community to shop their own wardrobes first.
They don’t buy anything for their wardrobes without asking two simple questions: Do we need it? and Will we wear it for years to come?
At Reskinned, we believe great style shouldn’t cost the earth (literally).
The pair’s thoughtful, practical approach to fashion is exactly why we loved them so much, and knew we had to get them into the Reskinned studios to share their wisdom.
Penny and Nikki’s eye for timeless pieces and their commitment to giving clothes a second life is just what we need around here, so we asked the duo to build their dream capsule wardrobe from Reskinned’s collection. From versatile outerwear to everyday essentials, here’s what they picked!
We challenged Penny and Nikki to build their perfect capsule wardrobe with a twist. Every piece had to be pre-loved to keep things sustainable. And of course, they totally nailed it. Our team is obsessed with their picks, and we’re betting you will be too.
Stay tuned if you want to build your very own sustainable, versatile capsule wardrobe.
Penny and Nikki started with the foundation of any good capsule wardrobe: versatile tops that can be styled for multiple occasions.
These classic staples are perfect for whatever day you’ve got on the cards.
Some shirts work extra hard, and this grey linen shirt from Seasalt is one of them. Lightweight, but still with a good amount of structure, it can be styled as a classic shirt or worn open as a shacket, giving you no end of layering options.
Linen is a capsule wardrobe hero, and one we always suggest including because it’s so breathable and endlessly durable. It keeps you cool in summer, layers beautifully in the cooler months, and only gets softer with age, making it a piece you'll reach for year after year. A big yes from us, and Nikki and Penny!
When we think of a capsule wardrobe, one essential that always comes to mind is a crisp white shirt. And that’s because it is such a wardrobe essential!
It pairs effortlessly with almost anything: layer it over a summer dress, tuck it into shorts, or wear it under a knit jumper for that effortlessly polished look. Because it’s a total classic, it really does work for every season and occasion, from days in the office to casual weekend wanders, and this Tala number is cool and comfy to boot.
If you’re after something classic, comfortable, and seriously flattering, a top like this one from Tala is a must-have for your capsule wardrobe. There’s something about the way Tala pieces fit, hugging you in all the right places, without being tight and uncomfy.
Reliable, easy to style pieces like this are only going to make your life easier when it comes to picking what to wear.
Shirts have a magical way of making you look put-together even when you don’t feel it, and this denim blue gives this shirt a casual twist. Pair with tailored trousers or jeans, and we’re sure you’ll be getting compliments all day long.
Penny and Nikki couldn’t resist diving into our collection of sweatshirts and jumpers, and they didn’t stop at womenswear.
They told the team they love shopping the pre-loved mens section for sweats and knits, telling us the relaxed fit often fits more forgivingly, which is especially good when you’re shopping online, as you can’t try things on!
We’re a big fan of sweatshirts and jumpers at Reskinned too. Practical, cosy, and effortlessly cool. Yes, yes, yes. Here are the pair’s favourite picks.
A quality cardigan will keep you warm for years - maybe even decades.
This orange Finisterre cardigan is such a standout piece for layering over shirts and t-shirts, and the colour pairs so well with khaki or neutral outerwear, adding a subtle pop of colour that feels bold without being too feminine or overpowering.
Natural fibres like wool make a brilliant addition to your capsule wardrobe. They’re durable and versatile, keeping you cosy in the winter months, and cool when it gets a little bit warmer. Pieces like this are great to pick up pre-loved, as they last for years and years and you can invest in something that might otherwise be out of your budget.
When we say capsule wardrobe, are you imagining tailored pieces like shirts and blazers? Us too! But never underestimate the power of a comfy sweatshirt for cosying up and adding a bit of casual cool.
This Parlez sweatshirt is super versatile, and has a really easy, vintage feel to it. Pair with smarter pieces to make them feel a little bit more relaxed, or go for an elevated loungewear look with a slouchy tote bag and some minimal jewellery. The key is to mix it with your tailored pieces. Yes, you really can mix everything here together!
Have you got a quarter zip sweatshirt in your capsule wardrobe yet?
If not, it’s time to invest in one. Penny and Nikki have us sold. The high neck adds that little extra detail, perfect for layering under a light jacket to keep your neck cosy and works just as well with jeans as tailored trousers.
When it comes to bottoms, trousers were king for the pair, and we love the ones they chose. A comfy pair of leggings for more active days, some black wide leg trousers to dress up a look, and of course, the perfect blue jeans.
When it comes to finding the perfect pair of blue jeans, Nikki and Penny suggest looking in the menswear section. Often you can find more classic washes and straight leg shapes, just like this pair from Finisterre.
Of course, we don’t need to tell you why a pair of blue jeans is a must-have in a capsule wardrobe, but finding the perfect colour that can be casual or dressed up? That’s an art that Penny and Nikki have mastered.
Okay, these might be the perfect capsule wardrobe trousers. Smart, versatile and just as comfy as a pair of pyjama bottoms, the right pair of trousers can take you seamlessly from work to a night out and even to brunch the next day.
The timeless silhouette is ultra flattering, and the simple colour forms the foundation of so many different outfits. Dress them up with a blazer and heels or down with a simple t-shirt and trainers. No matter what you do, these will always be a hit.
We don’t need an excuse to get comfy, but if we did, these Sweaty Betty leggings would be the perfect one. The brand is our ultimate go-to for the kind of sportswear that feels amazing for runs, walks, gym sessions, and post-workout coffee dates too.
On colder days, they make the perfect layering base; just add a chunky jumper and boots.
We can’t complete a capsule wardrobe without outerwear, can we?
Especially in this country anyway! The best outerwear works across seasons, so light, layerable pieces are the absolute key, and we love the ones the duo picked out for us.
Timeless silhouettes and neutral tones are the easiest to style, but don’t let that stop you from picking something more colourful - it’s all about making your wardrobe work for you.
Quilted jackets are the perfect light layer. Wear under a coat to keep cosy in the winter, and sling over a t-shirt for spring and summertime. This Tala khaki jacket brings that cool, utilitarian vibe that can easily dress down a smarter outfit or add a touch of polish to casual sweats, making it great for the school run or weekend errands.
Light layers are the secret to a capsule wardrobe you can wear all year round, according to Penny and Nikki, and this Seasalt Cornwall coat is the perfect piece.
Practical and stylish, you’ll be warm and dry but also effortlessly hit that laid-back chic vibe.
It’s what we all dream of, and what Penny and Nikki manage to capture so effortlessly well. We are taking notes!
A blazer is the capsule wardrobe piece that’s going to make your outfits feel polished, even if you’ve just rolled out of bed and thrown on some lipstick.
Wear for work meetings or weekend brunches to add that elevated feel to your outfits. When you’re looking for the perfect blazer, opt for a more timeless cut and a neutral shade in a good quality fabric, like this beauty from Hush, so it won’t go out of style.
What did you think of Nikki and Penny’s capsule style? We’ve definitely been taking notes!
The beauty of buying pre-loved is that it opens the door to pieces you might not usually splurge on.
High-quality, timeless staples that are made to last.
It’s a smarter, more sustainable way to build a wardrobe you’ll love for years to come.
