We can’t believe the year is coming to an end! Looking back at the last twelve months, we’ve come a long way, and grown more than we could have imagined. As we round off our second year in business, it felt like a good time to give you a rundown of just a few of the exciting things that happened at Reskinned this year. From awards and grants to exciting new tech and new members of the Reskinned family on board, there’s a lot to celebrate.

Here are some of our highlights:

Let’s start with the stats…

Everything we do here at Reskinned has one goal in mind - keeping as many textiles out of landfill as we possibly can. Crunching the numbers, we’re proud to say that this year we’ve diverted 9,1919 of takeback which is 24,862 items of textiles that would have gone to landfill, which is 97% more than last year.

We’ve found new homes for 34,519 items with a big thank you to our incredible customers. Without you, it just wouldn’t be possible.

Our unique formula has enabled us to grow our resale and recycling avenues by more than 10x the size they were last year, and we’re proud to be growing month on month. When you look at the numbers, it’s plain to see the impact we’ve had, and we couldn’t be prouder.

New Brands Joining our Reskinned Family

We welcomed a whole host of fantastic new brands - big and small - into our Reskinned family this year.

Each and every one is unique and special, and a perfect partner for us. When we choose who we partner with, it’s vital for us to be sure that brands are aligned with our mission to make circularity the norm and not an exception in the UK’s fashion industry.

From iconic names like Dune London, Oliver Bonas, Hush, Penelope Chilvers, Seasalt Cornwall, Bluebella or Salt-Water Sandals and trailblazing brands like TALA, Parlez and Hush, our family continues to grow and welcome new brands on board.

And with each new connection, we get one step closer to our circular fashion reality - not to mention we get to offer you some incredible pre-loved bargains too.

Drapers Sustainability Awards - Highly Commended in Recommerce

We’ve only been in business for under two years, so we were over the moon to receive the Highly Commended award for Recommerce at this year’s Drapers Sustainability Awards. It was a real pinch-me moment, knowing that we’d been recognised for all of our hard work.

From the get go we set out to make an impact, and being acknowledged for that by industry leaders Drapers was a great validation.

Of course, we couldn’t have done it without our amazing team, who work tirelessly to bring the big ideas to life, and keep our mission at the core of everything they do.

Though highly commended is definitely no small feat, we’re pulling out all the stops to win the award next year, so watch this space.

Pioneering Automated Textiles Sortation

We’ve got seriously big ideas, and in order to make the big things happen, it’s important to team up with other great minds.

As part of the consortium of companies led by the Fashion and Textile Association, we managed to win a hefty £4 million grant from Innovate UK to bring some of those big ideas to life.

We won’t bog you down with too many of the details, but in essence, the collaboration aims to develop a large-scale automated textile sortation facility, which will be the first of its kind in the UK.

This is a huge step for circularity - the more clothes that we can sort, the more we can reuse, and the more we can save from being wrongly disposed of.

At the moment, clothes sortation has to be done by hand, meaning someone needs to look at each and every individual item, and decide what to do with it. And with the current level of consumption, frankly there’s too many clothes, and a huge proportion is ending up in landfill.

This grant is a big step for our mission to stop that from happening, and the beginning of something very exciting.

Harnessing Tech for Good With Our Automated Listing Tool

This year has seen a lot of technological advancements across many different industries, with AI becoming a feature in more of our lives than most of us imagined.

We’re not ones to shy away from technology, so we knuckled down and worked out how we could apply these new developments to our industry.

We put our energy into the wild idea of developing a cutting edge ingestion tool that would allow our brand partners to instantly share their product information. A few months ago we managed to turn the idea into a reality, and it was a game changer.

Right now we are in the process of rolling the technology out on a bigger scale, and already we can see the positive impact it’s had on the work we do.

As a result, we’ve managed to keep a lot more great clothes out of landfill and get them into the hands and wardrobes of the people who will love and wear them.

Thank you to tech for making it speedy and simple, so we can spend our time coming up with even more creative solutions to help our brands reduce their impact on the environment.

We’re Getting Bigger… and Bigger!

Things are going very well at Reskinned. So well, in fact, that we actually outgrew our warehouse… twice!

We knew we’d be expanding, but things happened quicker than we imagined, so we needed to speedily pack up and move to bigger and better spaces to accommodate for all the clothes we’ve got on offer for you.

Our Reskinned team grew bigger too, and new faces became good friends as we worked together to get amazing pre-loved clothes into your wardrobe.

This year has been a great one, and we couldn’t have done it without you.

Thank you for being on this journey with us.

And keep your seatbelt on, we’ve got even more exciting plans for 2024.
